Louisiana sketch

's Em (tumblr here) were working and swapping ideas about personifications for all 50 of the United States, and I called Louisiana I sketched a few other thingies, but that's the first one I thought I might be onto something here.

Marie (after Voodoo Queen of New Orleans Marie Laveau) is a cheerful, fun-loving young woman on the surface; look beyond her smile, however, and you'll see the deep, rich history of both hardships and struggles, and victories and joys. She's proud of all her roots, and they are many and varied: African, Native American, French, Spanish... She's the proud child of several multi-coloured, multi-ethnic and multi-religious peoples. Humour and music are her main weapons against whatever life or ill-intentioned people can throw at her, but she's not above using cutting sarcasm - whatever happens, she always walks out with her head held high.

I'll try to work some more on her when I have more time, because I like her a lot
